Post Work

1) Before the weeknd calss I didnt know that amish people do not use electricity and I wondered how they do that and thought it really must be hard but I read in one of the sources that they do have most things we have that use electricity like the washing machine and taking the house tour completed the picture in my head when I saw everything in person 2) I expected a lot more people than there were at the weekend class and I also thought that we would be sitting down all the time and listening to on going teachings which is how things were at the last weekend course i went to, I was surprised that we didnt have a lot of pre work to do which i expected to be more than we got, But on the brighter side I loved that we could form friendships with each other and the weekend class organisers so in the end being a smaller group truned out really good, I enjoyed and appreciated all the foods and drinks that were provided, the lancaster food we had wasn't the best but im not a complaine...

Saterdays Homework

1) The moment I will remember most was being at Central Market, I loved how it felt like being outdoors even though we were inside. I appreciated how most if the foods that were sold there were home made and some probably were made from family receipts that were passed down but yet so affordable. Central Market really gives you that feeling of being in Lancaster county and is a great place to visit as a tourist and a local resident. 2) When I think about the trips we took on Saterday i can still smell the Cabbage and raw fish at the market, The smell of horses at the stables during the amish hime tour, the smell of buttered noodles, fried corn, fried chicken and chocolate ice cream during the dinner buffet. I think its weired how when I think back i can really smell these scents hahaha. I remember the sound of the amish home tour guide's voice lol and seeing all the household furniture within the amish home like the gas iron and wood stove 3) what surprised me most was seeing h...
Homework 1) Today i leared a lot about the amish culture history and way of living, i learned about the reasons why they live the way they do for example that kids only go to school till 8th grade to learn the basics and work on the family farms from there on into their complete adulthood. 2) I thought that it was interesting how church on sundays is held at the amish homes instead of a church building because almost every religion has a building/temple that they can go to at any time to pray or serve and not just on sundays but the amish people dont because church services are held at different homes every Sunday 3) Tomorrow im really looking forward to getting close and upfront to how amish people really practice their lifestyle and to visit some of the places they go to and ask more questions and also get to see some of the things in person that we have so far learned about

Amish culture

Hi everyone below I will answer some questions about Amish culture and also ask a few questions. 1) I was surprised to learn how literal and direct they are when it comes to following the bible and living by the word of God. My question is how do they stay consistent in making new and younger generations understand these ways and believes and also follow them as young people of today are more strong willed 2) That its one of America's oldest inland cities and how popular farming is here 3) I really found the indoor farmer's market the most interesting because at home we don't have anything like that where im from 4) Down town Lancaster  is very different from my home town, im used to urban areas. 5) I think amish people made it clear that they dont want to engage in modern days habits therefore outsiders should leave them alone and let them be because they keep to themselfs, its rude to write and say things about people when you dont fully understand them. If I w...

Hi Everyone

My name is Kamogelo and it means "acceptance" A unisex name that originates from an African language called "Setswana" in South Africa.  What surprised me most about living in the US is how much fast food people eat, I later realised that its because fast food is ridiculously cheap and easy to acess in America! meanwhile in my country its the total oppersit. One other interesting thing I noticed is how much say American kids (all ages) have in their lives and way too many rights than whats good for them if you ask me.  I've always wondered why amish people dont wear regular clothes, whats the cultural reason behind that? and do they have the freedom of choice not to wear amish clothing.  I find amish people to be kind, hardworking and peaceful. They mind their own business and don't bother anyone because they are too busy being focused on their own work and lifestyle.
